flying with canopy open

I assume we're not supposed to fly with the slider canopy open.

A guy that instructs and has students with Grumman's asked me how far the canopy can be open. I took him the RV's don't fly with them open.

It wasn't 20mins. later over the practice area-- it's getting louder and louder. And breezy. I look up and the canopy is open 2 inches. Staying right there. I closed it and I haven't done that again.

What type RV were you flying when it opened up on you ?

How hard/easy was it to close back up. How fast were you traveling when you discovered it open.

RV-7A-- not too fast-- just levelled off at 3,500 ft. for practicing turns. 120--140kt.s

it slid forward and closed normally.
