I was in need a better bead breaker tool for my motorcycle tires, so while searching the internet for something better than tire irons I've used for years I this...and I love a good tool. Paul Merems' TBBT-2 is just that.
He has setups for both folks that want to repurpose their dimpler, like I did, or those that want to buy the whole setup complete. Having had a DRDT-2 dimpler for many years with great service through a couple aircraft builds, I thought being able to repurpose the clamp assembly to breaking tire beads was a great use of my dimpler, that's now collecting dust on the shelf (hey, you never know when the urge to build something else will hit).
I emailed Paul to arrange the purchase and short time later received my tire breaker frame ExperimentalAero and set about transferring my DRDT-2 clamp assembly to the new frame using the well written and illustrated instructions.
The construction is high quality with excellent welds and powder coat finish.
I've only used the tool for one tire so far, but it was great to use on the work bench and very easy to break the beads off both sides quickly and with about the same pressure you'd use to dimple a sheet of aluminum.
Other items I noted are:
- It's a quick evolution to swap the clamp assembly back to the DRDT-2 if needed with only four bolts.
- To protect that fine powder coat finish, I put pads under the bottom rails.
- I use white lithium grease for the clamp assembly slider.
