One sided audio

We have an RV7, Garmin 340 audio panel, Avidyne COM 1, ICOM COM 2 all routed through an Approach Systems Fast Stack hub.

We don't have any issues at all with audio. Std headsets are DC One - X, most excellent headsets. One of the others have those Indian Bose things - again, no problem, but not as good as DC.

He has Lightspeed and it only gives audio out of one side.

Any suggestions please for trouble shooting ?

If the 340 isn’t stereo, the lightspeed is probably set fot stereo. There’s a switch in the battery compartment on most of them

Make sure the LS is set for stereo and not Mono. Believe it is one of the dip switches under the battery. May need a manual to figure out which switch.

Hi, both pairs of headsets behave in the same manner, setting to Mono or Stereo on the dip switch makes no difference. Audio is present on the right earphone, but only at about 10% volume of the left.

Bewildered.....

Take the light speeds home, plug them into the headphone jack of a stereo (there’s an impedance mis-match but you won’t hurt anything).
Do they work? If yes the issue is in the airplane. Look at the tip jack, it will move outward when you insert the plug. See if it touches a ground (airframe) when you insert the plug. Spray some contact cleaner onto the plug.
If no, start taking the control module apart in the comfort of your living room. ‘Exercise’ the slider volume control, spray with contact cleaner; look for a poor connection. Try noise reduction off. Etc.

Hi Bob, headsets work well in everything else. All other headsets work perfectly in the RV. Headset plays music over bluetooth in beautiful stereo. I'll try as you say the audio test from the plug.

Over the years I’ve noticed that not all phone plugs and jacks are identical. Hold your plug next to a working one. Is the length and tip shape identical? Stick your head under the panel and watch as you insert the plug. Does it mate properly? The connecting pieces on the jack move sideways. Anything touching ground?
