Question on rv6a main gear

jask

Well Known Member
Looking at a rv6a for sale that had a left main gear leg straightened. How would the gear leg be bent and where to look for additional damage?

One thing to check would be wheel alignment per the manual. The other would be the attachment weldments, and gear leg attachment holes in the weldments. Remove the nuts from the retention bolts for the gear leg and look elongation of the hole. I inspected a -6A with this type of damage and fount the holes elongated, and the gear alignment out .

Likely from a hard landing. You want to examine ALL of the attachment point of the gear mount to the fuse and spar. I would also closely examine the engine mount attachment points and nose gear leg interface to mount as well, in case it also hit the nose wheel hard.

I would consult with Harmon Lang at LANGAIR.COM as he makes the gear legs, probably the most knowledgeable guys out there.
