Garmin GTR-200 retrofit kit

Ordered one of these, and noticed I will have to cut off the SL-40 coax RG-58 adapter and attach and crimp on a RG58 to BNC connector to fit the GTR-200 antenna jack.

Has anybody already done this... did you buy the crimper universal handles and Crimper die from Pro's Kit CP-336DI and only use it one time?

This would be a 1x use for me, wonder if someone else already has one for 1x use for sale, or could it be forwarded to the next guy, once you're finished?

I've no idea what Garmin was thinking in the first place for the SL-40 and their proprietary connector, why reinvent the wheel? It's a 2m ham radio on AM, kind of surprised it doesn't require a ham radio license, at least a Tech license, to operate on the band. BNC connectors are pretty standard on 2m frequency radios. de N6MMA

Maybe check e bay or one of the suppliers for a short adapter cable that will work for you.

Pretty sure, if it was available, Van's would have included it in the kit they provide. The kit I bought is labeled a "Retrofit" kit from Van's. They suggest cutting it off and crimping the connector provided back on, and make a suggestion for the tool to do so, instead. A 1x use tool, at least for me.

I own a bunch of RG-8X and RG-233, for portable use. Maybe I will try to hit up some ham radio buddies, instead, to borrow a tool. RG-58 is rare, in my inventory, all my coax cables are bought prefabricated.

That GARMIN connector is a pricey darn connector from Stein AIR. About $100. https://www.steinair.com/product/bnc-tray-connector-right-angle/

Or maybe just approach SteinAir and have a new cable built complete. A bit more work tearing out access to the connection at the antenna and with cable routing. and unscrewing a bunch of panels.

Or maybe I could just solder the new connector on?
