Pneumatic Dimpler/Riveter Which One?

Building a -14A. Which one of these is the ticket? I want light weight, adjustable set holder (no shims), prefer one touch to activate (although the safety catch to prevent accidental activation should be defeatable, somehow).

Looking at the one from Cleaveland, but the thing looks real heavy. Maybe this is the price for an air driven squeezer?

The Taylor from Brown Tools is a good deal with two yokes, but nothing says it has adjustable set holder capability or how much it weighs.

Also looked at this one from Numatx: https://numatx-tools.com/numatx-ss-hts-c3k3-numatx-squeezer-systems.html but it looks kinda bulky due to the hydraulics. Weighs 2 lbs though!

Pros/cons?

Thanks, as usual, in advance.

I have the one from Cleaveland and absolutely love it. It does get heavy at times but you learn how to hold the part and the squeezer to minimize fatigue. You definitely want the adjustable ram. I would also recommend getting the extra long reach and the longeron yokes.

Numatx squeezer

I have the numatx squeezer. Came with 4 yokes.
Cons: It is fussy to get set up. Have to remove the yoke to change dies or length of set.

Pros: Once the initial set up is done it works great. Yokes arte easy to change. Light weight in your hand.

I screwed the pump to a board and removed the foot guard. Very easy to relocate. Easy to use on those long rivet runs. I am very happy with the numatx. It has met or exceeded my expectations.

Pneumatx is the way to go

I have a pneumatx, and a traditional ATS squeezer. I use the pneumatx almost every time over the other. They are both capable, but the pneumatx is just sooooo much more convenient and easy to use. It is smaller, and gets into places the other will not. The hydraulic system is a great advantage. Foot activation leaves two hands free..... much easier to use. Also, once you set for a -3 or -4 rivet, it is all set such that no adjustment is needed if you change rivet length, Where the other must be readjusted. It is much lighter, causing less fatigue. People who come to work with me get tired of me telling them repeatedly how much I love my pneumatx 😊😊. It?s worth the price several times over in my opinion.....

Are there any rivets larger than 1/8" on an RV? The pneumatic and hydraulic squeezers seem to only rivet up to 1/8".

Have you consider the Cleveland hand squeezer? the pneumatic squeezers are too heavy for my arm, so got their hand squeezer and really like it.

Rivets

Very rare. Basically if you mess up and have to go up a size. None on my 7A.
Personally I prefer a gun and bar anyway.

Are yokes, sets and dies interchangeable between the Pneumatx and, for example, the Cleaveland Main Squeeze?

Not sure about the pneumatx but they aree between my manual and pneumatic.
Get the quick change pins as well.

Numatx,

2 pressure settings, 1 for -3, 1 for -4.

No shims

Yokes interchangeable

Super lightweight head and an extra pair of hands as your foot actuates the squeeze.

Also, for long rivets you are not, off the cam like a normal air squeezer is.

Yes, more expensive, but you will always sell for top dollar when your project is done.

Oh, junk the yellow thing - we are all grown ups and don't need nannying ;)

Yes, but are die sets interchangeable with hand riveters like Main Squeeze?

The Numatx and most pneumatic squeezers use a CP214 style yoke. Cleveland website says main squeeze uses the same.....

Add my vote for quick change pins.

The Cleveland dies (and others) will fit in these yokes.

Don't worry about the weight. You'll get used to it pretty quickly.

There are just a very few -6 rivets, less than ten. They are used for filling tooling holes in specific places. A normal pneumatic squeezer like my CP-214 can set them but you should expect to have to make multiple squeezes to do it. It's not a big deal. Also, while they are universal head rivets, you can use a flat set on them - it's approved per that Mil-Spec for riveting that's on Van's site. You don't need to buy a special set just for those.

Wirejock, remember I mailed you a few?

Yeah, that's where they go, at least on the single-digit kits. And perhaps I used a gun, too.... it's been a while.

If you decide on the Numatx, get the upgraded hose. Flyboys has an option to buy it that way, or you can buy the hose after the fact from TSFlightlines. The standard hose is larger, stiffer, heavier. Upgrade is a smaller metal braided hose, well worth the $$$.
