Battery charging thoughts

Mark Burns

I was looking to buy a new battery charger. (For my boat)
Trying to find one made in the USA. Found a few but they are pricey.

Reading all the spec's about this charger or that one made me wonder about our RV charging systems.

My battery is connected to the "B" lead of the alternator and to the main bus.
Yes, I have the 60 amp circuit breaker etc.

But my point and question is....Why do battery chargers have to be so sophisticated when my battery is on the bus with 14.5 volts the whole time I'm flying.

It's never overcharged or gotten hot to my knowledge.
It seems to just use whatever amps it needs to charge back up with no fuss.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark
