Dynon lighting problem

My 7 year in service Dynon D100 is losing it's backlight. $450 plus double shipping to get it repaired at Dynon.
Anyone know of a cheaper fix by DIY perhaps?
Thanks

Are you sure that doesn't include upgrade to super bright?

I thought the flat rate repair cost was $250.

That's what I paid when the power/charging circuit died in my D-10A.
Dynon insisted that if I opened it up to fix it myself it would lose its calibration.

They just recently raised the price from $250 to $450. They also don?t offer the super bright update. They are running out of parts on these units. They have supported these units for way longer than any other company I know if in this business.

Odd. They are still selling the D10A and D100.
The D100 is now sold only with super bright display.

$250 to $450 is quite a jump.

I decided to go with Dynon in the RV-4 I'm building because I have a D-10A in my RV-3B. But maybe I should look for alternatives?
(I would prefer servo with clutch rather than stepper motor so as to have no influence on control feel when servo is off.)
