N800MF Takes Flight

Yesterday was a special day for two reasons, the first is it was my 50th birthday and the second was it was the day my 7 year, 7 month and 15 day RV-8 slow build took flight. The flight was thoroughly planned out with the help of airshow performer, LD Jefferies who would fly chase for the flight. Taxi out, takeoff and the subsequent 1 hour flight went smooth without any flying issues. Ailerons trailed evenly and no heavy wing. The IO-375 from AeroSport powered the Hartzell composite propellor and felt like a rocket with its performance. All engine indications were perfect and the engine break in went smooth. The RV grin is a real thing...and I have it!

The paint scheme is in honor of the P-51 Man O'War from the 334th FS.

I want to say thank you to my mentor, repeat RV-8 offender and Lindy winner, Glenn Vokac, for his friendship and guidance!

Thank you to LD Jefferies from Lil Devil Airshows for your chase/wingman skills!

Wow, very nice. Congrats! Interesting paint job on the prop.

It looks like paint in the photo but they are actually BladeSox custom done for my airplane. When you pay this much for a prop I want to protect it with the best...BladeSox!

Congratulations on the first flight! I know what it feels like to sit at the end of the runway, hoping everything will go OK, but knowing from your planning that things can go wrong. The first few minutes are obviously exhilarating!

PS did Kelly know LD was flying her airplane?

Thank you ...and she did, she was running the hand held taking stats for me! She is the best!

congratulations!!
First flights are amazing, aren´t they?

Mine is not too far away and i can still feel what you described.

Nice paint Job, i am always jealous when i see the size of the registration marks that you guys are allowed to have…….

many happy landings and troublefree flight hours!!

Ahem...

"felt like a rocket with its performance."

I'll let you say (and I agree) it is a quick machine - sure LOOKS the part too! Very nice job indeed.

I will also suggest that you never get in a REAL Rocket of either brand.;)

Now that right there is funny Boyd! When I saw an RV-4 half completed kit for sale in the local area I suggested I should just go over and look at it. Her exact quote was, "buy it!". I think more for getting me out of her airplane but also to keep my hands busy in retirement. She's a keeper!

Congrats Michael on your RV-8 from one ex-con to another. We've met a couple times at Morris EAA meetings and the open house when you and Glenn were buildings your -8's in the same shop. Glenn was also my tech advisor and looked at my project before I moved from Sandwich to NW Arkansas. Best of luck with your beautiful bird.
