Fluting help

allenthoe

I'm New Here
My rudder tip rib (R-903) is bent so that the middle is off the table. I can press down to flatten it but cannot figure out how to straighten it.

Fluting as I understand it, is used for the reverse. How do you deal with this?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Allen

Get yourself a piece of scrap alum sheet, bend it into an angle.

Practice fluting on that.

From what I can see, your rib should benefit from a bit of fluting work. Do not flute too much----easier to add a bit more if needed than to flatten back out, and do not flute where the rivet holes are.

Good luck.

for that

Fluting is for exact reason you have there. Flute lightly in between the holes where it is off the workbench - it will bend it in and be perfect.

Wow thank you Mike and SJ, that worked perfectly!

I was just nervous and the directions said to stop and ask before proceeding if you are unsure and this was awesome. It’s incredible, it’s flat as can be and the edge still fits snugly into the skin.

Thank you!
