Silicon O-Ring...For Brake Calipers ?

Going to replace the existing buta-n 218 brake caliper o-rings on RV8 (because I see some tiny /wetness leakage) with the Viton versions.. good from 0F to + 400F

Is there a reason why don't used Silicon O-rings.. -80F to +450 F (I don’t see any posting on Si O-rings).. Its Compatibility Issues ?

Thanks

Yes, compatibility issues. Silicone (not silicon which is a hard brittle crystalline solid element) is rated as a "4 - Unsatisfactory" in Parker O-ring Catalog 5700 with "Automatic Transmission Fluid", "Dexron" and "MIL-H-5606"

Nitrile NBR (Buna N) and Fluorocarbon FKM (Viton) are both listed as "1-Satisfactory" for these fluids.

Not adding much to your questions about silicone, but going with Viton will essentially be a one time upgrade. Unless you cut it reinstalling, it should last years if not decades.
