Facet fuel pump mounting

The instructions with the Facet fuel pump state to mount it with the outlet higher than the inlet on about a 45 degree angle. I can?t understand why that is necessary. Can someone enlighten me. Anyone mount it differently successfully?

I don't get the specific of 45 degrees, but the outlet being higher makes some sense.

Until the pump primes, some fuel will stay in the pump with the outlet higher.

This makes priming and starting easier on the pump.

This is for a RV 3A with a fuselage fuel tank. The pump will always have positive head pressure as it is below the bottom of the tank or the fuel supply is exhausted. I?m of the opinion that in this particular installation the requirement that the pump discharge needs to be higher than the inlet is irrevelent but I could be mistaken. Perhaps it has something to do with the internal check valve?
