RPM for Rotax RV-12

most seem to use 5100-5400 and use from 4.5 to 5.5 gph. I tend to be around 5200 and seem to get right at 5 gph.

This can vary a tad from engine to engine and individual users. Then you have each persons personal preference.

I can't speak for RV-12's in particular as I don't fly one, but in the range of similar aircraft I fly that are powered by Rotax 912, as per the Rotax Operation Manuals, 4800-5200 is the optimum operating range.

I usually see 15-18Litres/hr (4 US Gallons per hour/4.7 US Gallons per hour) and I try to stick more to the lower-middle range around the 4800-5000rpm mark.

Rotax says run them. Fuel flow will depend upon altitude. I always run at 5400 RPM and see between 4.7 and 5.2 GPH.

The suggestions to operate around 5200-5400 are assuming the prop is pitched for WOT at cruise altitude is least 5500 and more likely 5600 or even 5650.

On an RV-12, if the prop pitch is set properly, the WOT RPM at lower altitudes will easily exceed 5500.
