CAN BUS

A friend wants to start his 912iS engine for the first time but is afraid to
because all of engine parameters have a red X on the Skyview HDX display.
Does the engine have to be running in order to see engine parameters?
There is no voltage on the CAN BUS. Does the engine need to be running
before the CAN BUS works?

Dynon does not use a CAN bus in their system. You'll need to follow the install manual steps to search the Skyview network for devices and make sure you set all the appropriate EMS inputs per instructions. You will also need to configure those items on the engine display. There will be no red Xs when done.

Dynon does use CANBUS for Rotax 912iS installations because that is how the engine control systems output the engine data.

Dynon has a special EMS module (221 instead of 220) to interpret the data.

It is normal for the data positions to be X'ed out on the screen until both lane switches are switched on. Doing so powers up the engine side of the system and begins outputting recognizable data.

Thanks Scott. I assume from your reply that the engine does not need to be
running to view engine parameters on the Skyview display. The only
requirements are that the Skyview is on and the lane switches are on.

Can can

My panel is filled with MGL (E/AB) and that works with CAN Bus. Indeed: no need to fire the engine.
Stay healthy!
