Vertical Stabilizer hinge assembly

JC/ELP

I'm New Here
I've just started construction of the vertical stab and have already run into an issue. The VS-1211 hinge spacers have a slight bow to them. When clecoed between the hinge brackets, there is nearly a 1/32 inch gap at the top of the assembly on the "concave side" of the spacer.

Is it important that these parts sit flush? I'm wondering if I should attempt to flatten the spacers or even order new ones.
BTW, I'm a total beginner with no shop experience.
Thanks for any help.

JC

Take the time to flatten them. They are considerably thicker than the spar material, and will tend to pull things out of alinment when riveted together. As you proceed with the build, you will encounter many of the punched, thick parts that have a bow to them. This is a normal result of the forming process. DO take the time to flatten all of them! I gradually bend them backwards over a piece of thick wooden dowel until the curve is gone. Steve
