Wiring GTR 20 as comm 2 with non-GTR comm 1

I have the common setup of a GTN 650 as Comm 1 and a GTR 20 as Comm 2. The G3X Touch installation manual says that the ID strap (pins 8 and 27) is to identify the GTR 20 as Comm 2. That note is referred to a few times in the example wiring diagrams but it is only shown wired when Comm 1 is another GTR 20.

That leaves me with this question: Do you connect pins 8 and 27 on a GTR 20 that will be Comm 2 when it is the only GTR in the system?

I don't think that is the case. I think the ID configuration is to differentiate between like units.

I have a similar setup with my GNS430W as COM1 and my GTR200 as COM2.

Not needed

You’re correct, this is only if com 1 is another GTR-20 unit. With the 650 as com 1, you will omit the ID strap for the GTR-20.

Thank you. I didn't see that explicitly stated in the instructions so it's good to know that the way I planned to wire it works for others.
